"Mardi Gras" is a complete contrast to the first movement and is inspired by Danielpour's dream of the Berlin Philharmonic and its late music director dancing and marching with instruments in hand down the French Quarter in New Orleans (or he suggests, possibly West Village in New York). The tempo marking is instructed to be wild and uninhibited and begins with grounded low octave eighth notes in the left hand and rhythmic syncopation in the right hand. The syncopation theme is colorfully written with an abundance of various accents and is contrasted with a tranquil middle section that sings with warmth. This movement sets no boundaries for the performer to showcase a flamboyant personality with its range of dynamics from pp to fff, five levels of accents, syncopation, and the full range use of the keyboard's registers.
