Inaba no Shiro Usagi (white rabbit) is one of Izumo mythologies. Inaba is the old name of the area located in eastern Tottori. The rabbit tricked wani (crocodiles? or sharks?) to cross the sea. The rabbit stepped on wani backs in order to go up Oki no shima Island to the beach of Inaba Province. The wani got mad at the rabbit, and just before the rabbit landed, wani caught the rabbit and peel the rabbit skin. The rabbit suffered very much from pain, and sought help for Okuninushi. Okuninushi told the rabbit to wash in fresh water, and lie down on the heads of cattails. The rabbit did so, and was healed. The rabbit was deeply grateful to Okuninushi kindness. Hakuto Kaigan (white rabbit beach) is said to be the beach where the rabbit landed. There exists Oki no shima' just as mentioned in Izumo mythologies about 80m off shore from Hakuto Kaigan. Near Hakuto Kaigan there is Hakuto Jinja Shrine that enshrines the white rabbit god. This shrine is popular with young women and couples as he is a matchmaking deity.
