Architecture as still life The architectural practice of 25 years of Nisha Mathew Ghosh and Soumitro Ghosh known as Mathew and Ghosh Architects, Bengaluru, India, which has been of a diverse nature of projects and activities, rarely repetitive, thereby making it an inquisitive practice of eager generalists. In similar lines this essay like presentation shall try to unfold bits of surrounds of the practice (from education onwards) and pick selected works as illustrative samples - looking at the works with as much and as little sureness. This is a presentation of selected projects that the practice has done and thoughts that surround them. Soumitro joined as partner ‘Mathew and Ghosh Architects’, a partnership founded by Nisha Mathew Ghosh in 1995. The work is varied across the spectrum and ranges from projects / ideas to do with the urban, research, space, architecture, interiors, product design and so on. Educated at the School of Architecture CEPT Ahmedabad (graduated 16.08.1994) Soumitro Ghosh has earlier on worked with Pritzker Laureate B.V. Doshi, R.J. Vasavada, Neelkanth Chhaya, K B Jain, Jaswant Singh and others before beginning this collaborative multidirectional practice. Having taught in different schools of architecture and at the Bengal Institute, Dhaka and been the Charles Correa Design Chair, juror, panelist etc. at numerous occasions and forums. He was lucky to begin his journey of teaching with Kumar Vyas, founding member of NID. He has had interest in teaching since graduation especially architectural design and has personal interest in politics, philosophy, culture and history to understand the world we live in and work within.
