DISC INFO: Mostly sourced directly from Ben's vault, with a few tracks taken from that 1994 compilation. Guilty and Jackson Cannery are from a lossy source, because the Country Music Archive that hosts a rip of the tape doesn't provide source files for collectors and fans. Believe me, I tried. I didn't edit the tracks from Ben's vault at all except for adding the stick tap back to the start of Protection, but anything that isn't from Ben's vault is slightly remastered to match the vault songs. The first 4 songs are ordered exactly as they were on the "Jody's Power Bill" tape (not the band, the tape) that Ben put together in '94 and everything else is pretty much an approximation. After living in New York for a few months, Ben moved back to North Carolina with the goal of forming a band. He moved into a tiny little house, the same house Whatever and Ever Amen was recorded in (after he already moved out), and got to recording countless songs on a 4-track tape recorder. Some of these were recorded before the band was formed and some were recorded after, but there's a pretty consistent sound throughout. This is probably Ben Folds at his most raw, with crappy mics and almost no overdubs you aren't going to hear a more unfiltered Ben than this. Song for the Dumped even has the original lyric, you know the one. There's definitely something to be said about that.
