Original Air Date: November 13th, 2009 This was a video I was thinking of putting up for a long time, but I didn't want it to end up like the Chrono Killer videos (as I couldn't get the game to run originally outside of DosBox). However, due to the BoR engine getting spruced up over the years, there's a newer version of OpenBor out these days that seems to run wonderfully on my comp without annoying freezes in the sound, so I decided to get this one out and bore you all with it. Beats of Rage is certainly nothing new. It's been around for several years now and was crafted by Senile Team and inspired by Sega's "Streets of Rage". The game and its engine has inspired people to use the "Beats of Rage Engine" in various ways to make fan-made beat-em-ups and other games, as it is praised for being almost entirely customizable. Beats of Rage is one of the most succesful games to use the engine. Several BoR games were ported to other systems like Dreamcast and Playstation 2 (either being the same or with minimal improvements, or they have different soundtracks). It's a relatively simple game where you beat up waves of thugs from the KoF/AoF/FF universe to get to "Mr.Y". The main characters are Blue Mary, Kula Diamond, and Maxima, and they walk the streets beating people up. There are basic item pick-ups, but no weapons and the fighting isn't very sophisticated, thus the reason people have since created more sophisticated upgrades to the BoR engine (to allow for more flexibility, playable characters, programmable moves, and things of that nature). Most characters and such within these games are "Borrowed", so you won't find much originality within the BoR games, but if you've ever wanted to see some of your favorite characters in a Beat-em-up, looking up Beats of Rage and OpenBor wouldn't hurt.
