Olaf Nicolai hat eine Felsenform aus dem Joshua Tree Nationalpark nahe Los Angeles originaltgetreu nachgebaut und auf den höchsten Punkt der sogenannten "Wilden Insel" zwischen Emscher und Rhein-Herne Kanal platziert. Der Berg sitzt auf einer künstlichen Aufschüttung, die durch den Bodenaushub beim Bau der Schleusenanlage entstand. Ansonsten ist hier die Natur sich selbst überlassen worden. Im Hintergrund die Industriekulisse. Der künstliche Berg ist innen hohl und beherbergt im inneren eine Musikanlage, die in den Sommermonaten eine Komposition der schottischen Rockband Mogwai die "Music for a Forgotten Future " ( The Singing Mountain) in einer Dauerschleife spielt.
