Veridian is developing a net-zero energy neighborhood in Ann Arbor designed to address affordability, sustainability, and community-centered living. Key features include: • Net-zero energy homes powered by on-site solar • Battery storage systems and fully electric infrastructure (no gas lines) • Native landscaping that supports and restores local ecosystems • Front-porch-oriented site design to encourage neighborhood interaction • One of the nation’s first “sponge neighborhoods,” using bioswales and permeable street materials to absorb and filter rainwater on-site • No use of toxic materials such as PFAS or hexavalent chromium • Locally sourced and sustainably harvested materials, including Michigan hardwoods and reclaimed wood Future plans include integrating a local farm stop concept to incorporate food access directly into the neighborhood model. SBN Detroit interviewed Matthew Grocoff, founder of Thrive Collaborative, to learn more about the vision and development of Veridian.
