Turning pens is something I have thought about for a long time but just recently began to explore. In this short, I share my start up costs associated with making pens. This does not include the cost of tools that were already a part of my shop. I rely heavily on my bandsaw and drill press to make my pen blanks and I already owned a lathe, even though I do not do a lot of turning. Pens make great gifts, they can be made fairly quickly, and they are perfect for using up those precious cutoffs that are so hard to part with.
