A bicycle ride in Esquimalt, BC to see the new Tillicum Road protected bike lane (June 2024). This video continues from where our Tillicum Road video ended in 2023 at the boundary of Saanich, BC. Highlights include one-way quick-build protected bike lanes on both sides of the road, bicycle turning lanes, multi-use crossings with flashing lights, updated paint markings, and a connection to the AAA network in Saanich. Our ride begins by heading Southbound from the Tillicum Road Bridge. The previous video on Tillicum Road concluded at this point where the protected bike lane ended. This time we'll continue to ride into the Township of Esquimalt. A few safety upgrades at this point include, concrete barriers at the North entrance to Esquimalt Gorge Park to funnel cars through a single entrance. We also see a new quick-build protected lane and multi-use crossing with rapid flashing lights. Continuing South we then pass a bicycle turn lane and new crosswalk providing access to Selkirk Avenue. As we cross Craigflower Avenue we see updated paint marking and then continue in the protected bike lane to the South end of Tillicum Road at Colville Road. Next, we head back and use the bicycle turn lane to access Selkirk Avenue. This crossing includes both pedestrian and bike crossing buttons along with rapid flashing lights. Selkirk Avenue can be used to access Banfield Park and the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Next we ride the Northbound section from Craigflower Avenue. We'll continue riding all the way to Gorge Road to connect to the AAA network in Saanich, BC. In the final section of the video we'll use a new crosswalk with rapid flashing lights to access Esquimalt Gorge Park.
