Fallopian tubes are the region where the fertilisation occurs and thereby results in a pregnancy. If these tubes are blocked, may be due to an infection or endometriosis or previous surgery or abortion then this fertilisation cannot occur and it cannot result in a pregnancy. There are certain methods in treating these blocked fallopian tubes and the most common one is to go for a surgery. The surgery can be done either through an open surgery or through a laparoscopic surgery. Generally in infertile patients we prefer a laparoscopic surgery as it is minimally invasive. So in laparoscopic surgery we can do something known as tubal cannulation where a cannula is passed into the tube to enable the tubes to open up or we can cut the totally blocked parts of the tube and re-anastamose the free ends which are mobile and open. Apart from the surgical part we also have something known as the IVF. There has been some cases in which the tubes cannot be opened at all no matter whatever surgery we do. In such conditions an IVF is the best method and probably if you look at it in the long run it is also cost effective. IVF meaning In Vitro Fertilization or test tube baby is a condition where the eggs and the sperm are made to fertilize externally in a test tube and once it forms an embryo on day 3 to day 5 we put it back into the uterus. Here we are bypassing the role of the fallopian tubes. There are several things available on the net such as acupuncture, acupressure or even some herbal remedies and yoga. If the tube is diseased and blocked I don’t think any of these methods can help to serve the purpose. So the best is to go for an IVF or a tubal surgery.
