Volvo 850 Estate BTCC Featured here is a 1994 Volvo 850 Estate that Volvo & TWR entered into the 1994 British Touring Car Championship driven by ex F1 driver and Le Mans winner Jan Lammers. There was also a 2nd 850 Estate entered and driven by Rickard Rydell. The road going 850 had a 230BHP 2.3 litre turbo 5-cylinder which would not fit the 2.0 litre BTCC regulations but Volvo and TWR used the 5-cylinder as a base for the race car and developed it into a 2.0 litre normally aspirated (non-turbo) producing approx 290BHP. A 6-speed x-trac sequential gearbox was also fitted. In 1995 Volvo replaced the 850 Estate with the 850 Saloon but it had done its job of being a great marketing tool for Volvo gaining a lot of interest alongwith competitive results. The 850 Estate's best results were a 5th place at Oulton Park with Rydell and a 5th place at Brands Hatch with Lammers.
