Dependence Day - Living Your Life Fully Dependent on God | Bible Study

Every year on July 4th in the United States we celebrate our Independence Day. This commemorates when the American colonies severed ties with Great Britain and declared itself an independent nation. As individuals, we celebrate our own Independence Day (our Birthdays) every year ...the day our unbiblical cords were cut, and we were no longer dependent on our mothers for life giving nutrients and oxygen. Ever since that first birthday we've been in training to be more and more independent and self-reliant. • We learn to walk. • We learn to feed ourselves. • We learn to read and write. • We learn to drive. • We get jobs and learn to provide for ourselves and a family. The more independent we become the less dependent we are on anything or anyone. However, God wants us to rely on Him and look to Him to meet the daily in our lives. Why? God’s word is clear; self-reliance won’t get us to Heaven. Relying on God and depending on Him to meet our needs builds a relationship with God not only spans our life on earth but throughout eternity. In this message, we explore what Jesus taught on the subject of dependence and examine an exchange between Jesus and rich young man. This historical event is recorded in three of the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke. We focus on Matthew 19 verses 16-26 and dive deep into the conversation and the five questions asked. The young man asks Jesus three, Jesus follows up with one, and one question comes from the crowd. It is evident that Jesus loves this man, and he challenges his thinking. And Jesus is challenging our thinking too!
