The purpose of this video is to demonstrate one of the activities completed in a Canine Emotion Detox - which is a 3 Day protocol that provides a complete nervous system reset for dogs, developed by Diane Garrod. Non interactive play is simply presenting your dog with a chance to play with toys without you. You show your dog a bin filled with toys and just see what they do. Some dogs can self entertain. Others prefer human interaction. Some dogs don't play at all. It is simply one way to observe how your dog behaves in the context of play, which is an important indicator of the potential level of stress your dog may be experiencing. Some dogs never learned how to play, for others play is risky business and it can be costly, so unless they feel very safe they may not engage in play. After about 5 minutes if you dog has not played, you can cover the toys with a towel. After another 5 minutes you can place treats under the towel. There is no right or wrong, just simple observation that can help us understand how our dogs think is different situations. A Canine Emotional Detox is for dogs who are too stressed to train.
