In a neighborhood known for its restaurants, cafes, and parks, the architecture team sought a deep connection between the structure and its surrounding urban environment. The home manages to architecturally navigate its diverse context by playing with the height and scale between the primary residence and the guest house. Sun, shading, and principles around comfort were built into the design before the sculptural and architectural elements were imagined. At nearly 6,000 square feet a home of this size can feel overwhelming or lost, but the delicate placement of a central fireplace on the main level creates a natural division between a formal living and dining area, and a side of the home that is more casual and active. The addition of a central elevator in the primary residence allows the home to adjust and evolve to meet the changing needs of any buyer.
