This means that we need to look after our asparagus plants and give the asparagus spears all the care and attention they need to thrive and keep producing. When it comes to pruning your asparagus, which.needs to be done, there are 3 main questions you need to be asking yourself, which are: 1. Why do you need to prune asparagus? If you prune asparagus at the right time you would have waited for all the energy in the leaves and stalks of the plant to transfer back into the roots. By trimming asparagus plants you open up the crown to allow for new growth and give the new asparagus spears space to grow out and get as much light as possible. 2.
