Today at Château de Razac, work continues on the carriage house that is attached perpendicularly to the manoir, where we are preparing the opening for the installation of a new structural lintel beam. Before the beam can be fitted, the surrounding stonework must be carefully repaired. Many of the original stones around the opening had deteriorated over time, so the team begins by dressing and sculpting the existing stones using a hammer and pick to bring them back into shape. Some stones are too damaged to reuse, so new stones are cut and shaped to replace the ones that had to be removed. Once the stones are prepared, they are cemented back into place, rebuilding the strength of the opening and ensuring the structure is ready to carry the load above. The next step is preparing the new wooden beam, which will act as the lintel supporting the wall and the cross beam that carries the second floor. The beam is carefully cut to size before being lifted and inserted into position. However, the work becomes delicate when we discover that the old pointing mortar in the wall has become dry and crumbly over the years. Some of it has already collapsed onto one of the Acrow supports (Acros) that are temporarily holding the wall in place. Because of this, the team must stabilise the stonework before removing the support, otherwise there is a risk the wall could shift or collapse. Once the structure is secured and the new beam is safely in place, the Acrow supports can finally be removed, leaving the carriage house wall properly supported once again. Later in the video, we install a dovecote, preparing a place for the birds we hope to keep at the château in the future. Finally, we head over to Maison Violette, where renovation work continues with the installation of insulation and electrical wiring, giving a glimpse into the steady progress being made inside the building. Another day of careful restoration work at Château de Razac, preserving the buildings while preparing them for their future. #chateauderazac #chateaurenovation #historicrestoration #stonemasonry #lintelrepair #structuralrepair #traditionalbuilding #frenchchateau #heritagerestoration #renovationproject #maisonviolette #buildingrestoration
