I'm experimenting with two very simple and passive ways to potentially dramatically increase the warmth of seed starting beds in our high tunnels. With a high tunnel we can move one zone 'south' or warmer. Our 5b climate can be closer to 6b or 7a. With a low tunnel in that high tunnel, we go even warmer. (8a?) If I can combine this simple additional layer of protection with some decent quality compost based heating in the space or very close by, I suspect we'll be able to get seed starting happening in earnest this year within a few weeks with no external fossil fuels needed for warmth or light.
