What's going on everyone, I hope we're all doing well. @poinggg had asked me my thoughts on the Cycle 8 vs the F1-8x V2 and I thought "there's no better way to share than to do a comparison with the Cycle 8 from TKD against the F1-8X v2 from Geon Works. Tried my best to keep the builds as identical as possible for the best sense of control. Both boards uses no foams, an Aluminum plate, Cherry MX2A Blacks that are hand lubed and spring swapped, as well as GMK keycaps for a higher pitch with the ABS materials. Both sound great in their own ways, as I feel they each have it's pros and cons. What TKL do you find yourself leaning towards? Here are my thoughts... While both boards will be rather hard to come across now a days, either would be a lovely option to add into the collection. With the Cycle 8, I feel has more character when it comes to aesthetics, comparing things directly to the F1. Both boards have a nice finish, with the Cycle 8 having a coated finish being "Canvas" while the F1 having an anodized finish being the Green/brown. The F1 in my opinion truly is a holy grail when it comes to TKL. With the pcb I currently have, it does make things sound a tad bit, but overall, it sound extremely clean and polished with the level of quality materials placed into the board. The Cycle 8 does sound fuller when comparing things directly to the F1, but at that same time introduced more resonance and case hollowness even when considering the force breaks that are included. While both boards are utilizing the gummy o-ring mounting style, I find myself leaning towards the F1-8x v2 more. When comparing the boards, they're in different leagues as the Cycle 8 is more of a budget friendly option with the cost, while raising the standards for what it means to be entry level with the materials used. The F1-8x V2 costs nearly twice as much (and that's not to mention the extras you'll have to pick up separately) but has a more refined sound with the level of quality materials used such as the copper weights that are a huge contributing factor with the acoustics. Either board would truly be a great pick up if you ask me personally, as both boards are rather hard to come by now a days. If didnt have either, and both boards were available to pick up.... Which board would you choose? Many thanks for all of the love and support. Makes my day knowing I have the chance and opportunity to share my thoughts with you all. Even more so hearing from you all.
