Dance club legend Debbie Deb has taken a break from performing live on stage. Creating colorful art, from paintings to jewelry, is helping her heal both physically and emotionally as she battles Lupus. She's currently selling her creations to help raise money for the people of Ukraine at Lisa's Pieces on Grand Boulevard in New Port Richey. Everyone knows the story of Milli Vanilli. Many know how Martha Wash provided the vocals to some of the 90s biggest club hits while models replaced her in music videos. But not many know that there were two Debbie Debs. One was Debbie Deb, a teenager plucked from a record shop in Miami who created magic in the studio and was the voice of the hits "Lookout Weekend" and "When I Hear Music." The other "Debbie Deb" was a creation of a record label, a petite blond who just used the name Debbie Deb. According to her Wikipedia page (which the real Debbie Deb endorses): "Deb was overweight and suffered from low self-esteem, and found her sudden fame difficult to cope with. She was crushed when her record company decided not to put her picture on the sleeves of her records and, in a Milli Vanilli-esque move, even hired an "impostor" to perform and pose as "Debbie Deb". As a result, she made little, if any, money from her hit singles, and was so hurt by the experience that she stopped singing for years, relying on her work as a hairdresser to make ends meet. Years later, the real Debbie Deb is back. She performed at Tampa's Freestyle Explosion Throwback Jam at Amalie Arena in 2021. But at the moment, she's taking a break from stage to recuperate from a knee injury. She's taken the time to express her creativity by creating visual art instead of music. Take a look at some of her work in this video!
