The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic two and a half years ago sent U.S. housing prices skyrocketing. Even now, with mortgage rates doubling since the start of the year, the median home price was up 15% year over year in May. It’s still an extremely hot market, with prospective buyers regularly engaging in bidding wars. And competition is now driving rental prices higher too. Logan Mohtashami, Lead analyst at @housingwire1313, returns to Real Vision to provide an update on this still “savagely unhealthy” housing market. In conversation with Ash Bennington, Mohtashami explains why a 40-year low in U.S. inventory is the root cause of the problem and argues that rising rates are ultimately a good thing, even if it does short-term damage. Logan and Ash talk about the psychological, demographic, and societal impacts traceable to the housing market. And Logan shares his outlook for the U.S. housing market over the coming months and years. Recorded on June 30, 2022. #interestrates #housingmarket #housingmarket2022 Thanks for watching Real Vision Finance! ✅ Subscribe to our channel now for more videos like this one: http://rvtv.io/SubscribeRVFinance About Real Vision™: Real Vision™ is where you can gain an understanding of the complex world of finance, business, and the global economy with real in-depth analysis from real experts.
