When we use the phone, it's important to be polite and respectful. First, we say "Hello" when we answer the phone. This is a friendly greeting that lets the person on the other end know we're here to talk. Next, we listen carefully to what the person is saying. We don't interrupt or talk over them. We let them finish speaking before we say anything. We also use a polite tone of voice when we talk on the phone. We don't yell or shout. We speak clearly and calmly. When we're finished talking, we say "Goodbye" and hang up the phone. We don't just abruptly end the call. We let the other person know that we're done talking. By using Telephone Manners, we show respect for the person on the other end of the line. And it makes for a much more enjoyable phone call for everyone involved. Social stories are a tool used to teach social and life skills to Autistic people or those with other developmental disabilities. They are short, simple, and descriptive stories that provide information about specific social situations, such as how to make a friend, how to behave in a restaurant, or how to handle disappointment. The stories are written from the perspective of the person with the disability and typically include specific details about what to expect, what the appropriate behaviours are, and why they are important. The goal of social stories is to help individuals understand the social norms and expectations in different situations, and to provide a framework for appropriate behaviour. They are often used in combination with other interventions, such as visual supports and reinforcement, to reinforce the desired behaviours.
