Replacing Fuel Intake Screen - 1999 F350 7.3L Diesel I explained in the video, but basically my truck started running out of fuel at about 1/4 tank. This lower "boot" on the suction intake had broken off, so the fuel is no longer getting pulled from the bottom of the tank, but rather a few inches off bottom. This was a very basic swap. It took a while since I was alone, but with a second pair of hands would have been less than an hour. I ran the truck down to just above a 1/4 tank, then siphoned out the rest of the fuel. This was just to lighten the tank. Then by loosening the tank strap, I was able to drop the tank enough to remove the sending unit and replace the broken intake. With it all back together, I poured the diesel back in and fired it up. The truck started and ran flawlessly, and all seems to be working correctly again.
