The Institute of Cell Therapy (ICT) was established as a part of the University Centre for Research and Innovation of the University of Patras. The ICT is focused on translational research in cell, gene and regenerative therapies. Cell and gene therapies (CGTs) are at the forefront of modern advancements in health and they are expected to transform the landscape of biological medications, providing hope to unmet medical needs. The ICT is ensuring Greece is not lagging behind in this area and is leading the way with its Cell Therapy Program. At the centre of this Program are four pillars: they treat patients, they recruit donors, they innovate, and they shape scientists. These four pillars correspond with the various specialised units of the institute: the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit, the Centre to Advance Public Awareness & Recruitment of Bone Marrow Donor Volunteers (CBMDP), the Institute of Cell Therapy itself, and the “MSc Cell and Gene Therapies” postgraduate degree. All these elements work together towards the common goal of advancing healthcare in Greece and around the world. Starting from scratch in 2006 the ICT has grown into a team of over forty passionate researchers, clinicians, and professionals committed to making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and the future of healthcare.
