In fact it really made my desk rattle and really hurt my ears at times due to the sound pressure so beware if you have a 5.1 surround sound system like me. Thoughts: I remember picking up this game around like 2005 or so when I was still in high school from a used game store complete for like $10. Philsoma is a pretty good game in fact I'd go as far to say it's a rather unheard of one. So as much as I hate this term it's a hidden gem. Your part of a rescue team who must go into a colony on a rescue mission as the place has been taken over by rogue machines. Bravo team has been destroyed and your team is the only one left. Your goal is to get to the Tower. Philsoma starts off not too bad, but then half way through Phase 2 I could not evade the boss in the tunnel laser attack. Then outside the tunnel it's rough including the boss. Thankfully your ship has a bunch of weapons from the start you can switch to with R1 and L1. You have Vulcan which fires a spread shot and is probably the most useful, Laser which fires a beam and kind of sucks, A Break, and Ray-B which allows you to fire a rear gun which you need in certain sections and dogfights. You have a few different bombs you can swap from via power ups and I'm not sure which each of them is better than the other. Finally your ship has a shield which will absorb a few hits till it's gone. If your hit when your shield is gone you die. Thankfully you respawn right where you die, but if you continue you go back to the start of that phase. The phases are pretty long to. If your a fan of unknown games or shmups you should really check this one out. I got lucky and found this like 20 years ago. Hopefully you'll enjoy this to either on an emulator, a mister, or a real Playstation.
