Ms. Indudevi, a 71-year-old woman, from Kharghar, underwent cornea transplant when she lost her vision in the right eye due to corneal decompensation. It was a complication occurred due to poorly done cataract surgery more than 3 years ago. Due to this condition, she had constant pain and irritation in the eye, and suffered from extreme light sensitivity. Her condition required Cornea Transplant to improve the vision. She was successfully treated at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai through the complex Cornea Transplant Surgery carried out by Dr. Abhishek Hoshing, Consultant, Ophthalmology and Cornea Transplant Surgery and his team. A cornea transplant is a surgical procedure to replace the diseased cornea with a healthy donated corneal tissue. It helps to improve vision and relieve pain. Mr. Sushil Kumar, son of Ms. Indudevi, while sharing their experience at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, stated “Our experience at Apollo Hospitals was amazing and my mother has restored her vision after the surgery. I am grateful to Dr. Hoshing for treating my mother.” Dr. Abhishek Hoshing said, “Ms. Indudevi was diagnosed with a condition called Pseudophakic Bullous Keratopathy. In this condition, there will be an irreversible damage to the cornea because of surgical trauma, especially cataract surgery. When she first approached us, she could hardly see the light and hands moving and she needed cornea transplant. She was first registered in the corneal transplant recipient system of Govt. of Maharashtra and also Sahiyara Eye Bank in Thane. She was scheduled for surgery as soon as the corneal tissue suitable for patient’s requirement was available. She underwent surgery successfully and post the surgery, her sight improved and started counting fingers within the range of 1 meter from day 1 itself. Her condition is expected to gradually improve as the tissue heals and swelling reduces.”
