07/28/25 - Around 7:00 PM on Thursday evening, Orange County dispatched an apartment fire at 8244 Patterson Woods Drive following a heavy thunderstorm that had stalled out over the area. Frequent lightning strikes had been occurring 20-30 minutes prior to the call being placed. Initial units dispatched were Engine 56, Engine 36, Engine 57, Rescue 57, Rescue 36, Truck 54, Squad 1, Captain 7, Battalion 3, and Battalion 7. Some of those units were responding after clearing other calls in the area. Engine 36 was first on scene and found smoke and flames showing from a 3-story apartment building. A second alarm was sounded with dispatches for Engines 57, 58, 52, 53, and 33, Rescue 54, Quint 31, Quint 55, Truck 51, Truck 35, Battalion 4, Captain 3, Chief 10, Mobile Command 1, Rehab 1, AirLight 1, and UAS 1. No injuries were reported and all pets were evacuated safely. The third floor was severely damaged with flooding to other units below. aerial operations were complicated by overgrown trees in the neighborhood, and the extra manpower was needed due in part to the fire burning for around half an hour before anyone called it in, requiring extensive overhaul.
