After fourteen years out of service, on Saturday 13th March, it was full steam ahead for 3801! TheBritFromOz on Social Media Facebook: / the-brit-from-oz-8t5-290475251465865 Twitter: / thebritfromoz Blogger: https://thebritfromoz.blogspot.com/ The 3801 relaunch on 13/03/21 saw Australia’s most famous steam locomotive, take its first public passengers since 2007. Assisted by 4201, the locomotive made four shuttle trips between Central and Hurstville, with both 13/03 and 14/03’s trips sold out. I was able to record the second, third and fourth shuttles on 13/03/21 and these are shown in this film at Banksia, Redfern, Central and Tempe. A Pacific National freight train that happened to come along whilst I was at Tempe also makes an appearance. Ideally, I’d have had this film out sooner, but I’ve been incredibly busy with university this past week. As such, I will continue to release films when I have them done – so far, another film is completed and another three are in the early stages of editing. 3801 likely won't be appearing again until at least May when it runs to Medlow Bath as my current location in Bathurst renders constant trips to Sydney impractical. That said, it is an absolute delight to have 3801 running again – she looks and sounds fantastic. Welcome back 3801! -Duck Few corrections to the history segment. -3801's last run in NSWGR revenue service was in 1967, not 1965. It was placed in the care of the NSWRTM in '65, but returned to operate a couple more revenue trains when its overhaul was complete. -The last steam-operated NSWGR service was in 1973 rather than 1971 - a goods train from Broadmeadow to Sydney hauled by 6042. The last steam-hauled passenger service, from Singleton to Newcastle, was in 1971. Steam didn't fully disappear from revenue operations in NSW until the privately-run South Maitland Railway ceased operations in 1986. LEGAL STUFF The sources of history for this film are credited accordingly at the end. All the audio and visual content in this film, including the music, is my own work. This film is marked as “Not Made For Kids” as whilst it can be enjoyed by kids, they are not the primary intended audience. 158F: The 3801 Relaunch C.
