What is Rhinoplasty? "Rhino" means nose and "Plasty" means to modify or mould it. Hence the term Rhinoplasty. So it basically involves surgery done to do some changes to the nose. It could be functional as in breathing issues or recurrent URI or could be purely cosmetic. How do you know you need one. In Nature its all about balance. When things are not in balance then it looks out of place. You cannot make all noses look alike and one doesn't fit all. Have to be individualised to each individual. That is the art of Rhinoplasty In Rhinoplasty we rework the framework rather than the skin so to avoid scars and so we rework the frame works and allow the skin to redrape. There are two types of Rhinoplasty. Closed and Open. Closed Rhinoplasty there are no visible scars where as in open a small scar under the nose which heals well. Closed rhinoplasty requires more skill and knowledge of what lies underneath and what changes will produce what results. In open you can visualise it but since the dissection is more and normal attachments are cut hence the healing process can be a bit more prolonged. We do a lot of closed rhinoplasties and we do an open tip rhinoplasty when there is a lot of tip work to be done. Only then we do an open tip because we like to preserve the normal attachments as far as possible. So that is what Rhinoplasty is in a nutshell.
