Crafting an image with color doesn't always have to be based around complicated theory and color combinations; how you feel about a certain color, how your character feels about a certain color, or simply your own intuition toward using a certain color, may play a more important role in telling the story - and, in tandem, creating the intended feeling for the image. Using color with these feelings in mind can form a base, which can be built upon using more complicated theory - and with a base to work from, the generally accepted ideas, combinations and theory around color, can feel much less intimidating.
