I look upon the life I've known A landscape where all sorrow's sown The pieces of a broken self A silent tear upon the shelf Obsessed with dreams and distant lands It grips the soul with empty hands Engraved within a heavy call To grasp it all, yet own no soul The moon sheds light, a lonely sign The sun betrays the life divine I peer inside the lives of peers They hunt the bliss that disappears ​For what mankind sought to undo Was not the peace, but what was true The truth of having certain wounds Behaving like a person with different moods ​It seeks to besiege your instant half of mind And pierce the bright and kindness you find To become a monster and join the hunt And leave the soul to bear the brunt I see the path the unstable ground The pain you'll sow as you spin around And though my heart may ache and burn For lessons that you'll have to learn The deepest wound, the sharpest sting, Is feeling now like nothing Is knowing all you feel and strive Is only feeling half alive To emerge from the grave and be The ultimate lines of ecstacy To break the broad tensions of the lies And halt the flow of precious cries I know their true and stark demands The proof of a full life spanned For centuries, a life too brief Blown away like a brown leaf I long for a true state of seize The final earned position of peace Yet im reminded of eternal death Wait a bit, let me take my breath And sign the form of my health No worries now for power or wealth Only a stealth, a quiet skill To own my own combined will To forge the sound where shadows fall And answer duty’s sovereign call Composed on October 12 2025, for solo piano.
