This is a ~1 hour video of a 2-hour workshop on writing effective clicker questions, for college faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder, presented by Stephanie Chasteen. Full abstract: If you know you want to use clickers in your classroom, but are struggling to write or revise questions to align with your content, this workshop is for you. We will investigate the surprising power of multiple-choice questions to help students achieve critical thinking skills. We will discuss how to create questions that engage students, spark their curiosity, help recap material, give you insight into their thinking, or help them learn critical ideas in your discipline. We will focus on questions for facilitating "peer instruction" -- a research-tested method of requiring students to discuss challenging questions with one another. Finally, we will look at writing questions that align with our goals for students, discuss the elements of effective questions, and practice writing questions and work on improving them.
