BRUTAL Murder of Caroline Devlin & Susan Nicholson | Murder Documentary - UK 2023

AN EX-CHEF was convicted of slaying two girlfriends in the space of five years who were both said to have died in their sleep. Robert Trigg, 52, was sentenced to life for killing Susan Nicholson, 52, and 35-year-old Caroline Devlin. Unemployed chef Robert Trigg is from Worthing in West Sussex - where both women also lived, less than two miles apart. The father-of-one was thought to have accidentally crushed 8st Susan Nicholson as they slept on a sofa in 2011 four months into their relationship. Cops linked her death to that of his previous partner Caroline Devlin, 35. It was originally deemed that the mother-of-four, died of natural causes on Mother’s Day in 2006 when she was found lifeless by her then ten-year-old daughter. Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson QC told jurors at Lewes Crown Court: "Both women appeared to have died in their asleep. In each case the relationship with the defendant is marked by violence. “He has a history of behaviour that shows him in a possessive, controlling and jealous way.” Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson QC said that Trigg claimed to have had sex with Caroline before going to sleep the night before on March 26, 2006. He said he woke to find her in an “unusual position, face down at the opposite end of the bed’s pillows”. When he found Caroline dead, the jury heard Trigg made a cup of coffee and went out to buy cigarettes – before telling one of her young children their mum was dead in bed. Caroline’s cause of death was recorded as an aneurysm at the time, but Atkinson argues “there was no physical finding to support that conclusion”. After less than a day of deliberations on July 5, the jury found him guilty of the manslaughter of Caroline. Trigg murdered 52-year-old Susan whose body was found on a sofa they had both slept on in Worthing on April 17 2011. The maniac told emergency services Susan died after he accidentally rolled onto her in his sleep while they were on a sofa. But jurors did not believe this and found him guilty of murdering her. Robert Trigg was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 25 years for causing the two women's "senseless deaths". The vile ex-chef shouted “Isaiah 50 verse 11. They should be in here, not me” as he was sent down on July 6. The verse translates as: “Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks – walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. “This shall ye have of mine hand, ye shall lie down in sorrow.” The case only came to court after Susan’s devastated family fought for five years to get police to re-open the investigation. Speaking after the the sentencing, Judge Justice Ingrid Simler praised Susan’s family for “doggedly” pursuing the case. She said: “Mr and Mrs Skelton, her parents, have fought doggedly and continuously since their daughter’s death for the police to re-investigate her death, classified as non-suspicious and accidental at the time.” An independent inquiry has found Sussex Police "missed opportunities" after treating both deaths as not suspicious at the time. Ms Nicholson's parents, Elizabeth and Peter Skelton, spent six years and more than £10,000 trying to convince the police to reopen their investigation into their daughter's killing. They claimed they had been "ignored" and "failed" by police and every public body tasked with holding the force to account. Mrs Skelton, 81, said: "Finally, we feel like we are being taken seriously. "The more you look back at it all, the more furious you feel about how it was handled." The findings of the review into Sussex police’s investigations of the two deaths have been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to decide whether “any issues” should be addressed. The full report is not expected to be made public for some time. ========= Welcome to @J.A.U.K Crime, the ultimate destination for true crime fans!
