River Trek - An Epic Winter River Quest

Join me on an adventure—one of my toughest and most rewarding times on the Peace River. In this December expedition, I ski down to my canoe buried under snow on the riverbank. After digging it out and loading it with cameras, skis, food, and gear, I launch into the frozen landscape and began my journey downriver. My goal: reach my winter camera trapline—a series of trail cameras that capture incredible wildlife footage, including mountain lions, moose, and other elusive animals that define this channel. You’ll see the trek to the cameras, the raw challenges of winter travel, and some of the wild encounters that the trail cameras recorded. But the real test comes on the way back. With the river flowing strong and icy cold, paddling isn’t always an option. I battle upriver by paddle, on foot and by hand, using lines to haul my canoe against the current—one slow, grueling stretch at a time.
