Check out this first gameplay demo reveal from Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. This work in progress demo footage edited by us comes from today's Square Enix Special Stage at Tokyo Game Show 2025. This title is a full remake of the classic JRPG, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, originally released on the PlayStation. The turn-based JRPG game will remind you of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger! Description: The game begins on the island of Estard, the only landmass left in the world. The protagonist, the son of a fisherman, and his childhood friends, the prince Kiefer and the sharp-tongued Maribel, discover the Shrine of Mysteries. This shrine allows them to travel back in time by collecting scattered stone fragments. In the past, they discover that entire continents and kingdoms have been sealed away by a malevolent force. The core gameplay loop involves traveling to these past eras, solving the problems afflicting the land, and restoring the lost islands to the present day. The story is told through a series of self-contained vignettes that together form an overarching narrative about restoring the entire world. Remake Key Features: The game features a completely new, charming diorama art style that blends beautiful 3D environments with Akira Toriyama's iconic character designs, giving it a handcrafted, vibrant look. The famously long main story has been streamlined and made more accessible to new players while retaining its narrative depth. The classic turn-based combat system has been enhanced with quality-of-life improvements like battle speed adjustments and an auto-battle feature. The in-depth Vocation (Job) System is improved, notably with the new "Moonlighting" mechanic, which allows characters to have two vocations assigned at once, granting access to skills and perks from both simultaneously. Players can now perform a pre-emptive strike on weaker enemies on the field to defeat them instantly.
