Mrs. Vaijayanthi, a 68-year-old from Chennai, arrived at MGM Healthcare's Emergency Room in the middle of the night. She was COVID positive and was unable to open her right eye. She had contracted a mucormycosis infection that had spread to her paranasal sinuses and orbit. She needed immediate surgery to remove all traces of the fungus to ensure that no permanent damage sets in.
