Is it possible to be a full-time operator and a part-time cinematographer at the same time? I’m starting to find out the hard way. In this video, I’m taking you along for a "real" job from start to finish, or at least, that was the plan. I'm tackling a long driveway buried in ruts that needs a total transformation and 60 tons of fresh rock but, here’s the reality: balancing a high-stakes job with a camera is a different kind of beast. Between respecting my customer's privacy and trying to keep the camera moving as fast as the equipment, something had to give. I quickly realized that I couldn't keep the job up with the camera, and I couldn't keep the camera up with the job. Eventually, the work took over. I had to put the lens down to make sure this driveway was finished right. In this video: The prep and loading the day before. Grading out deep ruts on a massive driveway. The struggle of 60 tons of gravel vs. one guy with a camera. Why the "full process" videos you see on YouTube aren't always what they seem! This was my first time trying to film an entire job from A to Z. It wasn't perfect, and it was a struggle to pull the ending together, but it’s the truth of the DirtDriven Life. Thanks for riding shotgun even if I’m still figuring out where to put the camera.
