FMC's Folio Awards is the program that improves the news, so we all win. Watch to learn about the Fair Media Council, how the Folio Awards program works, see the judges and the 2021 winners. This annual event provides important feedback to newsrooms on what the public wants and needs in its news. This year's event features a behind-the-headlines conversation with the Newsday investigative team behind the history-making, 5-time Folio Award-winning work, "The Grumman Plume: Decades of Deceit." Investigative reporters Paul LaRocco and David Schwartz, along with Senior Multimedia Producer Jeffrey Basinger, describe the 10 months of work behind the project, the accidental discovery that enabled their investigation to take shape and how they brought the information to life. As a bonus, they even offer some advice to future journalists. Jaci Clement, CEO & Executive Director, Fair Media Council, moderates the conversation. Hosted by Sukanya Krishnan and Scott Stanford of The Suki & Scott Show (currently airing on Facebook), with awards announcements by WCBS Newsradio 880 news anchor Lynda Lopez and WNYW/FOX5 news anchor Dari Alexander. The program includes a tribute to two longtime members of the Fair Media Council, Northwell Health's Terry Lynam and Mazars USA's James Kinney, both of whom have retired after nearly two decades of service to FMC. The Folio Awards recognize Long Island hyperlocal, New York metro regional and National news stories, by professionals and students. In addition, social media campaigns (from anywhere) that inform, inspire or educate are eligible for entry. Entry deadline typically falls January for work done in the prior calendar year.
