Even celebrities who have the means and the access, supposedly, to the best surgeons. Well, for the most part, it's really not the name of the surgeon that matters, it's the technique that's done. It's not the skill of the surgeon, it's the judgment of the surgeon he exhibits when he looks at each individual face and determines what is necessary for that individual to look rejuvenated yet natural. So, the answer is very simple, there are many good surgeons who just simply use artistic judgment that is not ideal. And it primarily manifests itself in the direction of the skin pull. There are other things that make people look unusual; too much filler, too much Botox®. We all know about those things. When it comes to "why do facelifts look so bad," it's typically a patient who has had the skin pulled in the improper direction. Instead of it being more vertical, which leaves a natural appearance to the face, the skin is pulled more posteriorly, or backwards. Why is that done? Well, it's easier. The surgeon has an easier time when the skin is pulled backwards closing any puckers that are left. When the skin is moved vertically, there are more puckers to remove; it takes a little more finesse; it takes a little more time. But clearly, that is the most common reason for facelifts looking unusual.
