For this week’s Throwback Thursday, let’s rewind to Bridgend and a band that became absolute legends on the Pop Factory stage: Bullet for My Valentine. Originally known as Jeff Killed John back in the day, these guys hailed from the same hometown as my own adolescence. They turned into global heavy metal stars by 2007, rocking anthems like “Tears Don’t Fall” and “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me),” and even opening for Metallica on their European tour. They were regulars at the Pop Factory, and honestly, some of the nicest guys to work with. Also, just a personal note: I’m not a fan of labeling this kind of music as “screamo” - I think it’s a genuine form of expression and it deserves respect. In terms of directing the camera team knew that when I said 'scruff it up' we would throw away the conventional rulebook and crash zoom, whip, and basically go freefall which worked brilliantly for the mosh pit fuelled sound. Each shot was down to the individual camera person's artistry and interpretation of the song and I had the joy of blending that mayhem into one cohesive cut. Years later, its exactly the same que for the Jonathan show 'Ar y Pyst' game grams! In many ways, leting others contribute meaningfully to the overall picture of the business is the same methodology. Community not Autocracy. I have learnt a lot of lessons about managing and getting the best out of teams from the directors chair on shared talkback 🎥. Just listen to this super tight, live performance of 'Suffocating' on The Guestlist and how hopefully the pictures match the absolute electricity of the room and the bands dynamic performance. So here’s to Bullet for My Valentine, Bridgend’s own heavy metal heroes! 🤘🎸👌🎬
