Welcome to Brass Reflections, where friends, and present & former members of Cambridge Citadel Band introduce a favourite Salvation Army brass piece. In this episode, former CCB member Andy Millest introduces Brian Bowen's meditation 'My Comfort and Strength' which is built on George Herbert's song 'The God of love my shepherd is' - itself a paraphrase of the twenty-third Psalm. 1. The God of love my Shepherd is, And He that doth me feed; While He is mine and I am His, What can I want or need? 2. He leads me to the tender grass, Where I both feed and rest; Then to the streams that gently pass: In both I have the best. 3. Or if I stray, He doth convert, And bring my mind in frame, And all this not for my desert, But for His holy name. 4. Yea, in death's shady black abode Well may I walk, not fear; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod To guide, Thy staff to bear. 5. Surely Thy sweet and wondrous love Shall measure all my days; And, as it never shall remove, So neither shall my praise. ----------- 'My Comfort and Strength' (Brian Bowen) © 1967 SP&S Ltd Audio: New York Staff Band (Ron Waiksnoris) from the album 'Ceaseless Service' ℗ 2007 The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory INTRO/OUTRO MUSIC 'Celebration' (Leslie Condon) © 1968 SP&S Ltd Audio by the International Staff Band (Stephen Cobb) from the album 'Partita' ℗ 1996 SP&S Ltd ----------- Songs used under CCLI licence no. 227497 and Streaming License no. 553110 Cambridge Citadel (CAMSA Church) is part of The Salvation Army - a worldwide Christian Church and in the UK a Registered Charity no. 214779 © 2021 The Salvation Army Cambridge Citadel Corps
