And so our lap around Botswana is complete and sitting here along the banks of the Okovango river is like a reward in lush subtropical confines of our camp. The crackle of the fire is our time to pause and ponder of all the wild places we have seen. It is a perfect moment. The sun is setting, the heat is dissipating and I have a cold drink to wash the dust away In this moment You always think you will come back but you never do, because there still so much to see. And so, our journey around Botswana comes to a close. Sitting here along the banks of the Okavango River feels like a well-earned reward within the lush, confines of our camp. The crackle of the fire is our time to pause and reflect on all the wild and wonderful places we encountered. It’s a perfect moment: and the ritual around camp is second nature -the is sun setting and the day’s heat dissipating….with a cold drink in hand its times like these, you always think you’ll return, but there’s still so much more to see. Originating approximately 1,600 kilometers away in the highlands of Angola, the Okavango River flows with life-giving water, eventually fanning out into a labyrinth of waterways, lagoons, and islands. During peak flooding seasons, it covers up to 22,000 square kilometers, creating the Okavango Delta—a vast oasis within the Kalahari Desert. This delta sustains one of the most diverse concentrations of wildlife on the planet. We leave the sanctuary of RiverDance Lodge, and set our sights on one of Namibia’s most remote and untamed regions: the far eastern corner Khaudum National Park. …But first, a pit stop in the bustling town of Divundu to fuel up and resupply before the adventure can begin This remote access road is as wild as it gets and It takes us while to find our feet. The sand is soft and the going is tough but it seems our trusty truck was built for these extreme conditions. Khaudum National Park, often dubbed Namibia’s “last wilderness,” offers a truly untamed safari experience. Unlike more frequented parks, Khaudum remains largely undeveloped and sees few visitors, making its wildlife particularly skittish around vehicles. Spanning over 3,800 square kilometers, the park serves as a crucial corridor for migrating wildlife between Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia. It’s also recognized as a Lion Conservation Unit, highlighting its importance in protecting Africa’s declining lion populations. Khaudum is home to significant populations of elephants, with over 3,500 individuals counted during annual game counts. The park also boasts large packs of African wild dogs, one of the continent’s most endangered predators. For those seeking a genuine adventure, Khaudum’s remote and rugged terrain offers a safari experience that’s both challenging and rewarding. #4x4 #travel #africa #namibia #Caprivi #choberiverlodge #gondwanacollection #camping #riverdance #Kavangoriver #rivercruising #hippo #crocodile #Khaudumnationalpark #Khaudum #overlanding4x4 #overlanding #toyota #Toyotalancruiser76series
