Update: Plans are available for this Miter Saw Dust Collection Hood at https://woodenitbenice.ca/collections... I know 2 woodworkers who are retired that suffer because of permanent lung damage from the sawdust they've breathed in over the years. That's why I pay a lot of attention to the sawdust in my woodshop. The miter saw is the power tool that frequently makes the most dust in my shop. Miter saws are notorious for being dusty machines. In the year 2000, I built this dust collection hood. I've looked at other solutions around but I haven't found anything that I think that works as well as this. Effective dust collection is all about managing air flow. The smaller the opening on the dust collection hood around the miter saw, the more suction is created to pull that dust into the dust collector. The dust collection hood is a simple box that's attached to the base for the miter saw. I use a 1 1/2 horsepower dust collector, which provides plenty of power. The sliding doors are set up so they're just behind the fence and slightly above the table surface. The doors adjust by sliding them sideways for cutting angles or bevels. I hope this gives you a good idea of how you can create a dust collection hood for your miter saw or chop saw. Our woodworking plans - https://woodenitbenice.ca/collections...
