The museum holds paintings, calligraphy, ceramics and antiquities of the imperial collections. In 1987, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The imperial palace is now a public museum where visitors can learn, among other things, about its past as a fortress protecting the ancient city. The imperial collections are becoming ever more accessible to the public thanks to their digitization.
