Stirling Road – Queenstown. Retro 7 storey old flats. 1 storey Terrace Houses. Today, I took the Circle line to Farrer station, took a short walk, then a bus 93 to Queenstown – Stirling Road. My goal is to walk this area, which has a few old 7 storey flats all with common corridors and the 1 storey Terrace houses nearby, to see any old charm still exists. This kind of old estate are becoming extinct, making way for 50 storey new HDB flats build about the same type everywhere classified as BTO Design & Build, and mostly lack character but look awesome from the outside as a cluster of blocks. Rental 1 room HDB costs less than $20 per month when it was built in the 1970s. 3 rooms HDB build in the 1970s costs $9,500 - $13,500 and although people were generally poor, it can be paid off within 10 years working your butts off. 3 rooms HDB, even older estate but near MRT stations in the resale market is now over half a million, yes $500,000. The latest batch of popular location 5 rooms HDB cost over $770,000 and you can work your butts off to pay in 20 to 30 years for an average working person. Public housing has become housing people, to imprison them. But many people are not aware that designed in annual inflation and various taxes are hidden debts for modern day slavery.
