Transcript: Hi, my name is Kenneth Berger. Thousands of children suffer burn injuries in the US every year. Many of these burns were preventable, and even though my job as a lawyer is to advocate on behalf of victims, it's also my responsibility to educate families on how some of these injuries can be avoided. First, make sure your children are supervised in the kitchen, especially when the stove or oven is hot. As the child of a single father, I learned to cook when I was young. Now, we didn't always follow this safety rule, but it's a good one. Cooking is actually the leading cause of home fires, and the kitchen is the place in the house where more burns occur than anywhere else. Your kids should help out in the kitchen, just make sure you're with them. Second, teach children that candles can be as dangerous as they are attractive. Each day, dozens of home fires are started by candles. Sometimes this is as a result of objects being placed too close to the flame. In other instances, the candle gets knocked over by kids. Third, you don't need me to tell you about the dangers of fireworks. You know the harm they can cause our kids. Therefore, practice fireworks safety, set a good example, and have clear rules for your children to follow when shooting off fireworks. If you have any questions about burn injuries, burn prevention, or safety resources in our state, pick up the phone and call me today. I'd be honored to hear from you and look forward to being of service. Law Office of Kenneth E.
