I this video I talk thought the repair of my Mitox 268 LRH petrol brush cutter, come hedge trimmer come strimmer; it's not so much a repair as the replacement of the bolts holding the silencer (muffler) and replacement of the exhaust gaskets, it's an unusual fault as one of the original plain steel bolts appears to have broken due to mechanical fatigue despite the silencer being held in place by a second (replacement) stainless steel bolt. To prevent the bolts vibrating lose I've drilled the heads of the bolts and wired them together in the same way that is used in the aviation industry. I've replaced the blots with 410 Ferritic Stainless Steel because of it extra strength and better thermal properties. There's a good argument to say that the bolts should have the same thermal expansion characteristics as the parts they are holding but seeing as though the plain steel bolts have failed I'm going for 410 Steel Stainless. After I uploaded the video I realised I hadn't given the units relating to the coefficient of thermal for the different materials that I waffle on about, so here they are... Plain Steel 13 X 10 ⁻⁶ m/moC, in/inoF Austenitic stainless steel 14 to 17 X 10 ⁻⁶ m/moC, in/inoF Ferritic stainless steel 9.9 X 10 ⁻⁶ m/moC, in/inoF Where 'm' = metre and 'in' =inch Thanks for your interest.
