Who was Melchizedek and how could he have been a greater authority than Abraham? According to the Book of Genesis, Melchizedek was a High Priest of God to whom Abraham brought the very first tithe. Where did that happen? Eli Shukron may have discovered the answer. "We have a standing stone." Says Shukron, talking about the area he calls 'Temple Zero'. The standing stone in Jerusalem is an ancient place of worship dating back to the Bronze era, which would place the stone in the same period of history as Abraham from the book of Genesis. The location of the standing stone in Jerusalem, and particularly in the City of David, is also significant. As far as archaeologists are aware, there are no other standing stones of this kind in or around Jerusalem, meaning that Temple Zero is likely to be the very place written about in Scripture where Abraham brought Melchizedek the first tithe. In other words, the place of the standing stone, discovered by Eli Shukron, is likely the very first temple of worship ever used in the city of Jerusalem. Making Temple Zero much older than the Dome of the Rock or the Temple of King Solomon. _______________________________________ Interested in traveling with Living Passages? Genesis 14 18-20 describes him as a priest of God Most High, blessing Abraham and receiving a tithe. The Qumran caves’ Melchizedek Dead Sea Scroll (1st Century BC) further highlights his significance. “Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him…” (Genesis 14 18-20). Melchizedek’s lack of genealogy in Scripture underscores his uniqueness. Hebrews 7 compares him to Jesus, noting his superiority over Abraham. John 8 54-57 echoes this, with Jesus claiming Abraham rejoiced in His day, drawing parallels to Melchizedek’s spiritual authority. “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad” (John 8 54-57). Some scholars speculate Melchizedek was a pre-incarnate Jesus, but Hebrews’ reference to Jesus as a priest “after the order of Melchizedek” suggests distinction. Hebrews 7 1-10 emphasizes Melchizedek’s greatness, calling him “king of righteousness” and “peace,” with no recorded beginning or end, resembling the Son of God. “For this Melchizedek… remains a priest continually” (Hebrews 7 1-10). Melchizedek’s role as a priest-king, recognized by Abraham, David, and Hebrews, highlights his enduring legacy. His mysterious persona and parallels with Jesus make him a profound figure in biblical theology. _______________________________________ Temple Zero: Eli Shukron on Melchizedek, the Standing Stone, and Ancient Discoveries #melchizedek #bibletour #livingpassages
