Handel’s masterpiece is accompanied by video projections that engulf the ceiling and walls of the theater. A site-specific videomapping work, the result of multimedia artist Jacopo Della Rocca’s vision. The performance is entrusted to The English Concert and Choir, a renowned ensemble specializing in historically informed performances of early music. Thus, the theater transforms into a sort of Gothic cathedral with multicolored stained glass, while Harry Bicket, conducting from the harpsichord, shapes the rhythms, melodies, and intricate harmonies of a score that narrates—through the words of the King James Bible—the anticipation of the Messiah, his earthly journey, his death and resurrection, and the life of the world to come.
