The first female rapper is generally considered to be Sha-Rock (born Sharon Green) of the pioneering hip-hop group, Funky 4 + 1. Sha-Rock was born on November 17, 1962, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and grew up in the Bronx, New York City. She began rapping in the late 1970s and gained recognition for her impressive lyrical skills and stage presence. Funky 4 + 1, which later became Funky Four, was one of the first hip-hop groups to achieve mainstream success, and Sha-Rock played an important role in the group's rise to fame. She was known for her energetic performances and pioneering rap style, which helped to pave the way for future female MCs. Although Sha-Rock's contributions to the development of hip-hop have sometimes been overlooked, she remains a trailblazer and an inspiration to many female rappers who followed in her footsteps.
