Just a short video on how you can parkerize your steel parts with zinc phosphate acid solution. This finish is commonly known as Parkerizing and absorbs oil really well which makes it corrosion resistent. This rough finish is also very good as an undercoat for paint. Recipe for zinc parkerizing: 1-3% phosphoric acid 0,5% zinc oxide/carbonate 0,2% ferrous sulfate *0,2% nitric acid temp: ~80-90°C Recipe for manganese parkerizing: 1-3% phosphoric acid 0,5% manganese oxide/carbonate 0,2% ferrous sulfate *0,2% nitric acid temp: ~90-95°C *not necessary If you can't get the carbonate chemicals use the oxides instead. Nitric acid is not necessary but nice to have. In the EU it's not possible for private persons to obtain nitric acid or zinc carbonate so I'm stuck with zinc oxide and no nitric acid for the solution but as you see in the video, it works with the oxide supplement and no nitric acid too. Finish of the metal after sandblasting and parkerizing is depending on the steel you work with. In this video I work on airsoft parts and these have a very cheap and soft steel so your results may vary. I sandblasted the parts with aluminium oxide. Which is mostly recommended for gun parts. Hope you enjoy the video! :D
